LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Dean Whitaker fought in World War II as a bombardier.
Not only did he lose many friends in the war, but he was taken as a prisoner of war.

Now, he spends his days doing hobbies like swimming and painting. He credits his love of painting to a very special person.
"I started painting by watching Bob Ross on television and he made it look so easy. My wife was with me and we were watching it and she said I bet you can do that so I took her up on it," said Whitaker.
Thanks to his wife's guidance, he now spends his days creating art.

She passed away almost a year ago, but he said he still feels her presence.
"Oh I think about my wife all the time. She’s still with me," said Whitaker.
