LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The countdown for the second Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix is over.

All 10 teams and 20 drivers are on the Strip, ready to kick off the first day of race weekend with a night of practice.

11:25 p.m.— End of Formula 1 Day One in Las Vegas

You may be wondering what impacts you might face on your commute home or to the Resort Corridor on Friday and Saturday.

Channel 13's Guy Tannenbaum broke down the traffic impacts with information on closures and detours you should be aware of.

11:05 p.m.— Local reaction to day one of the Las Vegas Grand Prix

Channel 13's Alex Eschelman and Nick Walters spoke to locals at the Flamingo Fan Zone. One local said she can't believe she is at the event and can't wait for race day.

The clock hit zero on the Free Practice 2 after an hour of racing.

10:45 p.m.— Red Flag cleared

Albon's car was cleared from the track, and now drivers are free to continue racing. There are about 15 minutes left in the practice, and Hamilton leads with Norris right on his tail.


10:39 p.m.— Red Flag on the track

Alex Albon stopped on track at turn 6 with an issue with the car's fuel system. He made it safely out of the car.

10:30 p.m.— Halfway mark for the Free Practice 2

We are 30 minutes into the second practice and here is the top five drivers so far:

8:15 p.m.— Here's a look at the Sphere

Each team took multiple laps around the track, with some drivers going faster than others.

Valtteri Bottas has taken an extra energy store for this weekend, landing him a five-place grid penalty for Saturday night's race.

Another highlight half way through the first event— Piastri's car having problems starting during the Free Practice 1.


7:00 p.m. — F1 Practice One Classification:

We are 30 minutes into the first practice of the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix and here is where the drivers stand so far:

Both Mercedes drivers are up top, with Lewis Hamilton at P1 with a lap time of 1:36.927 and George Russell at P2 with a lap time of 1:37.706.

Just behind them were Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris neck and neck.


6:30 p.m. — The lights are green:

6:15 p.m. — Drivers are getting ready to rev their engines:

5:35 p.m. — Take a look at the F1 Fan Zones:

5:30 p.m. — Attention drone pilots:

The FAA created a no-drone zone within one mile of the racecourse. They will begin to enforce the restriction at 5:30 p.m.

The FAA is encouraging pilots to check airspace restrictions throughout the weekend using this link.


5 p.m. — Take a look at Flamingo and Paradise

The traffic jams are apparent just an hour and a half before Thursday's practice.
