Vandals burn slide at east Las Vegas playground

Investigators are trying to figure out who set fire to a slide on a playground and part of a nature trail at the Winchester Community Park near Desert Inn and Pecos.

It happened sometime before Tuesday.  A shade structure that was part of the nature walk was also toppled down.

It looks like whoever started the fires went from plant to plant setting them on fire before the fire was stopped with needles.

The slide has been closed until further notice. The county estimates thousands of dollars in damage.

Supervisor Patrick Gaffey says people enjoy bringing their families to park, and can't understand why anyone would try and destroy it.  "Setting fire to a plastic children's slide, the depth of the meanness is hard to understand," he says.

If you have any information, you can call the Clark County Park Police at (702) 455-7532.
