Roads were backed up along southbound Interstate 15 Sunday evening as New Year's travelers head back to California.
Traffic was stop and go around 5 p.m. starting about 8 miles before the Nevada-California stateline where drivers were only going about 5 to 15 miles per hour. But it depended what time the drivers were going near stateline since around 6 p.m. drivers were able to go the speed limit of 70 miles per hour. The traffic began to let up as the evening continued.
Around 300,000 people celebrated New Year's Eve in Las Vegas, many tourists, including from California.
"The traffic is killing us but the New Year has been great," said Le Oudorn, who traveled to Las Vegas with his five friends.
Some got out of the traffic for a bit by browsing the outlets in Primm before continuing on their journeys.
Sergio Torres and his cousin Jorge left Las Vegas around 4:30 and weren't expected to get back to San Diego until around 1 a.m., also including the stop at the shops.
