Vegas community holds vigil for 12-year-old struck, killed by vehicle

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Las Vegas community came together to remember the life a 12-year-old boy who was hit by a car and killed while walking near Faiss Middle School on Monday.

A vigil was held Wednesday night for Jonathan Smith at the park connected to Wet'n'Wild on Fort Apache Road, near the fatal crash location.

Smith and another child were hit by a car on March 25 while trying to cross Fort Apache Road near Maule Avenue, police say. The boys were not in a crosswalk.

He was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. The other boy was hit and is recovering from minor injuries.

Smith was a student at Faiss Middle School.
