LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Capping off a $200 million multi-phase expansion, Sunrise Hospital officially opened its newly expanded trauma and emergency department Tuesday.

The hospital flipped the switch on the red "Emergency" sign outside the new tower before sunrise, signaling the addition was officially open for business and would begin accepting patients.

The state-of-the-art tower is five stories tall, covers 182,000 square feet and has a helipad on top. There are 36 new ICU beds and room for 17 ambulances outside. Overall the trauma and emergency department cost $131 million, a sizable chunk of the $200 million project.

Sunrise Hospital broke ground on the expansion two years ago.
