LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — For more than 20 years drivers have passed by the sign on the vacant land near the west side of South Durango Drive just south of the 215 beltway. The sign announces a new resort and casino, and construction is set to begin soon.
Jason Nichols, owner of Jason James Pizza Bistro, said he was ecstatic when he was told the casino was breaking ground. Station Casinos purchased this piece of land to be developed in southwest Vegas. After many prior efforts to begin building, their plans are expected to come to life early in the year 2022.
“People are supportive of it is that extra little bit of entertainment and things that will bring value to our neighborhood here,” said Nichols.
Nichols said the new casino will bring in more tourism to this side of town. He added the new business will help attract more guests into his location and generate more revenue for their side of town.
“Anytime that good business that executes well and set the bar high and performs well they are going to be successful,” Nichols said.
Steven Budin, 13 Action News Financial Analyst, said a new location like this can be very beneficial for our local economy.
“You create dozens and dozens of construction jobs and once it is finished you have ongoing employment for years,” said Budin.
He said it will be convenient for people that live in the area.
“Locals like the idea of having a casino hotel in their neighborhood so they don’t have to travel far to go to a property.”
Budin said it's just a sign that Las Vegas continues to grow and offer more opportunities to boost our local economy.
