The airline with the largest share of passenger traffic at McCarran International Airport doesn't want an NFL stadium nearby.
Southwest Airlines officials wrote to Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak this week saying they were "extremely concerned" about one proposed site.
A group spearheaded by the Las Vegas Sands casino company is pushing for a $1.4 billion stadium in hopes of luring the Raiders. Initial discussions centered on a 42-acre plot of land UNLV owns across from the airport, although other sites are under consideration.
Southwest officials say they're concerned about bright signage and pyrotechnics that could affect pilots' vision during landing and takeoff. They're also worried that stadium traffic would crowd out airport-bound cars.
