Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tem Steven Ross announced a proposed solar ordinance Tuesday morning.
The ordinance would help financing for solar panels, following a ruling by the Public Utilities Commission that lowered the amount of money customers receive for their excess power from NV Energy. The city said they would work with NV Energy on the ordinance.
The city said there are 3,700 solar installs in 2015, 5,000 total since 2009. That represents 2 percent of all city rooftops.

The same PUC ruling also prompted SolarCity and other companies to pack up and leave Nevada.
"Their decision was a poor decision . . . and we need to do something different so we're going to do that," Ross said about the PUC commissioners' ruling.
