Sheldon Adelson taking medical leave from Las Vegas Sands, resumes cancer treatments

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas Sands Chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson will be taking a medical leave of absence from the company.

Adelson's company made the announcement on Thursday after sharing the 87-year-old has recently resumed his cancer treatment.

In March 2019, Adelson announced he was receiving treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Adelson's leave of absence starts Jan. 7 from his role as chairman and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands and Sands China Ltd.

The companies' boards of directors have named Robert G. Goldstein, currently Las Vegas Sands' president and chief operating officer, as acting chairman and acting chief executive officer of both organizations while Adelson is on medical leave.

Adelson is also the owner of the valley's newspaper, Las Vegas Review-Journal.
