A room caught fire at Holiday Motel around 9:53 a.m. Sunday at 2205 South Las Vegas Boulevard.

The motel was evacuated as Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded to the scene. Firefighters were able to put out the fire within five minutes.

Fire investigators believe squatters were using the room. Although the room was locked, officials believe a small window on the backside of the motel was being used for entry and exit. The window appeared to be closed and secured, which is a common maneuver used by squatters according to investigators.

Management of the Holiday Motel also discovered another room that was used by squatters. The door was secured so staff could not make entry and the bathroom window showed evidence of tampering.

Damage was estimated at $2,500. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
