LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Looking for an affordable apartment in the valley for so many is an unattainable goal.
A Las Vegas woman is down on her luck, living inside a motel near the Las Vegas Strip trying to get by after rent inflation forced her out of her apartment.
"My case, I worked different jobs," she said. "I do home care work. Also, I do amazon. I do whatever I can."
Losing the battle to the escalating rent market in southern Nevada, along with working several other jobs.
She also takes care of her disabled son full-time after her landlord increased the family's rent by $200. She could not afford a $1,200 rent payment.
In a new report by the low income housing coalition called "Out of Reach", it revealed just how much a person needs to earn state by state to afford current housing prices. Nevada came in 17th nationally.
The study says rent for a two bedroom apartment in the silver state is just over $1,200.
On average, Nevadans would need to make $23.70 per hour or earn a little under $50,000 a year to comfortably afford rent and utilities.
