Rio hotel-casino reopens its doors on Tuesday

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Rio hotel-casino on West Tropicana Avenue near the Las Vegas Strip reopened today.

The hotel-casino closed in March at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

The property celebrated the reopening by giving away turkeys this morning. Resident headliners Penn Jillette and Teller helped distribute the turkeys.

Although the hotel-casino is now open, it is only accepting reservations for its rooms for Thursdays through Sundays.

Las Vegas hotels are currently experience low midweek occupancy rates, resulting in several deciding to close during the week.

According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, weekend occupancy rates are currently 64% and weekday rates are 39%.

The Rio is currently offering rooms on the weekends for less than $50.
