Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced Nevada fire departments will receive $3,928,736 in Department of Homeland Security grants.
The funding will aid in hiring additional firefighters, providing departments with firefighting and emergency vehicles, personal protective equipment, emergency response equipment and training.
The grants are funded by the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant programs.
A breakdown of the grants are as follows:
North Las Vegas Fire Department, $3,715,850: The SAFER grant of $3,674,745 will be used to hire 18 additional firefighters and AFG funding of $41,105 will support improving fire and emergency equipment and facilities.
City of Henderson Fire Department, $212,886: This AFG grant improve the equipment and facilities for the City of Henderson Fire Department.
