Nevada Sen. Dean Heller really wants the Senate to remain in GOP hands.
Heller, I've learned, is hosting a luncheon fundraiser at Red Rock Casino Resort on Tuesday for five -- count 'em -- of his colleagues in difficult races.
They are: New Hampshire's Kelly Ayotte, Wisconsin's Ron Johnson, Illinois' Mark Kirk, Ohio's Rob Portman and Pennsylvania's Pat Toomey. The event's proceeds will go to the 2016 Senate Majority Committee, a joint fundraising PAC for the quintet.
The Fertittas, who own Red Rock, are longtime Republican supporters.
My guess is the event raises a lot of money -- I think Heller has phone numbers for Steve Wynn and Sheldon Adelson. Some believe that if the Democrats take the Senate, Heller will be less inclined to run for re-election in 2018 and may consider returning to Nevada to seek the office he has long coveted: governor.
