LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Anyone who has had their identity stolen knows the headache it causes.

In honor of National Consumer Protection week, March 3-9, 13 Action News has some tips from experts to help keep your identity safe.

  • Consider using credit cards instead of bank cards. Credit card companies normally assume liability for fraud.
  • Make sure you are monitoring your credit. Learn how to review your transactions online, do not wait for your monthly statements.
  • Freeze your credit. You should also cancel all credit cards you don't use often.
  • Check your bank accounts regularly and be proactive. The sooner you find fraudulent activity, the sooner it can be stopped.
