Program helps women defend themselves

A new organization wants to help women defend themselves against attackers.

The Women's Defense Network launched this week. It's a national organization founded by Las Vegas firearms instructor Maggie Mordaunt.

Mordaunt said she was inspired to create a women's only firearms and self-defense training program after seeing how many women in Las Vegas were intimidated to pick up a gun.

"They tell me, 'Well I was really afraid to come and take training until I was assaulted,'" Mordaunt said. "So we feel we need to get out there and talk to more women."

The Women's Defense Network is made up of seven female trainers who will teach firearms instruction, hand-to-hand combat, fitness, and other techniques to empower women.
