LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A fire at the Reid Gardner power plant took out a transmission power line, resulting in a system-wide power outage, affecting Mesquite, Bunkerville, Logandale, Moapa, and Overton.
An entire power pole had to be replaced, which left more than 15,000 customers without power for hours.
Some people, got creative, setting up stands on the side of the road, selling candles. Dozens of businesses, including gas stations, forced to close.
"We can't fuel our cars because we have to have power to the pumps so basically we're all at a standstill," one person said.
The Nevada Department of Transportation did what it could to warn people. All the electronic signs around the area were changed, telling drivers, you need to fill your tanks.
