With three weeks until the presidential debate at UNLV, students got a taste of the political action Monday night during a watch party for the first debate.

Many of the students that gathered in the ballroom were eager to see what they can expect from Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump when they take the stage at the Thomas & Mack Oct. 19. About 100 people were in the crowd as part of one of two watch parties on campus.

Students said the candidates kept their attention through the entire hour and a half long debate -- while saying both did a lot of skating.

"I think it was a really great start to the debate season," said student Ryan Romero. "I really get the feel this is a real thing. It is happening."

"It was very interesting to see how they answer the questions," said student Allie Duda. "Specifically beating around the question instead of actually answering it, which probably would've been the better option."

Several of the students are volunteering to work the Oct. 19 debate. Others are hoping they are chosen to attend through the student lottery.
