Assemblywoman Michele Fiore files for Congress

Posted

Republican Nevada state Assemblywoman Michele Fiore has filed paperwork to run for Congress.

Fiore registered Wednesday with Clark County to get her name on the November ballot.

She's seeking to represent southern Nevada's 3rd Congressional District, covering the Summerlin area of northwest Las Vegas and Henderson.

Republican Rep. Joe Heck holds the seat, but is running for U.S. Senate.

Fiore is an outspoken, two-term state lawmaker best known for her love of guns, support for Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and her recent intervention to coax the last remaining occupier from a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon.

The congressional race to replace Heck is crowded with Republican contenders, including Nevada Senate Majority Leader Michael Roberson, unsuccessful 2012 congressional candidate Danny Tarkanian and former Nevada Policy Research Institute executive Andy Matthews.
