UPDATE DEC. 20: The Clark County coroner has identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed as 46-year-old Dimitri Marie Stewart of Las Vegas. Her cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries. Her death was ruled accidental.

Las Vegas police say one person is dead after they were hit by a car while trying to cross the street on Sunday.
The crash happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Boulder Highway and Missouri Avenue, near Flamingo Road, when police say the driver ran a red light.

The driver was believed to be impaired by authorities and police say the car did not stop. It continued on Boulder Highway until it crashed into a light pole.
Police say the driver then got out of the car and tried to run away.

Officers found him south of where the car crashed into a pole and brought him into custody.
The person hit by the car was transported to Sunrise Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

As of 6:15 p.m., southbound Boulder Highway remains closed from Tropicana Avenue to Russell Road while detectives investigate. Avoid the area.
This is the 99th deadly crash in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction for the year.
