UPDATE: 5 Las Vegas police officers involved in recent shooting

UPDATE MAY 13: The officers involved in the May 10 shooting on South Boulder Highway have been identified by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as Sgt. Justin Diebold, Sgt. Stephen Trzpis, Officer Brendan Hansen, Officer Daniel Lapolla, and Officer Austin Lea.

  • Sgt. Diebold is 36 years old and has been employed with the LVMPD since 2005.
  • Sgt. Trzpis is 40 years old and has been employed with the LVMPD since 2005.
  • Officer Hansen is 33 years old and has been employed with the LVMPD since 2017.
  • Officer Lapolla is 24 years old and has been employed with the LVMPD since 2017.
  • Officer Lea is 26 years old and has been employed with the LVMPD since 2017.

All officers are assigned to the Community Policing Division, Southeast Area Command. All officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident.

Assistant Sheriff Christopher Darcy will meet with members of the media at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday to discuss additional details of the May 10, 2020 the officer involved shooting that occurred in the 6500 block of Boulder Hwy.

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) -- One man is recovering at the hospital in critical condition after a shooting involving Las Vegas police in the southeast part of the valley, the department says.

Shortly before 7:30 on Sunday night, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department received a 9-1-1 call that an intoxicated man with a gun was causing a disturbance inside an apartment complex on Boulder Highway near Russell Road.

A police helicopter arrived in the area and found the man on a third-floor balcony with the gun.

Officers say they tried to deescalate the situation, but the suspect left the apartment and pointed the gun towards them. That's when he was shot by police, according to authorities.

The man was transported to Sunrise Hospital where he is currently in critical condition.

This is the eighth officer involved shooting of 2020.

The identity of the officer involved will be released after 48 hours.
