A North Las Vegas man accused of killing his roommate and injuring another told police he planned their attacks last Friday.
Sean Szymborski was arrested the same day of the attacks near Ann Road and San Mateo Street. He faces charges of first degree murder, domestic battery with substantial bodily harm victim over 60, first degree kidnapping and first degree kidnapping victim over 60.
According to his arrest report, Szymborski had put handcuffs and duct tape over the mouths of his roommates.
The roommate who died, 55-year-old Peter H. Stebbins, was handcuffed so tightly that they had to be cut off by the fire department. Stebbins' cause of death was ruled as asphyxia due to suffocation and strangulation. Police said Szymborski had kicked him in the face.
His other roommate, only identified as a 71-year-old man, had his upper lip missing along with at least two of his teeth and also had a contusion and bruising of his head. According to the arrest report, this roommate told police he had been struck in the head and knocked unconscious before the duct tape was put on his lips.
When police were interviewing Szymborski, he told them he had snapped. According to the arrest report, Szymborski said his roommates kept "messing" with him and picking on him. He told police he "did not feel bad about it" and they got what they deserved.
Szymborski told police that neither roommate had attacked him. A fourth roommate had called police about the incident.
Szymborski's father told 13 Action News Saturday that his son is bipolar and has severe mental illness. Lee Szymborski said his son was a victim of patient dumping when a mental hospital released Sean without stabilizing him and without medication.
