LATEST UPDATE: Police notified the press shortly after 9 a.m. that the suspicious package was rendered safe. Traffic restrictions in the area have been lifted. The man police were question has been detained.

UPDATE: Police said during a press briefing shortly after 8:30 a.m. that the scene is still active and they are investigating something suspicious inside of a vehicle parked outside police headquarters.
The building has been evacuated and the man is being questioned.
Motorists and others are advised to avoid area until it is deemed safe.

The incident began around 6 a.m. Chopper 13 was above police headquarters on Martin Luther King Boulevard when a man was observed being detained. Shortly after, word was received about a suspicious package inside of a vehicle and police began closing down streets and evacuating people from the area.

So far, no other information is available. Motorists should take alternate routes.
