LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Assistant Sheriff Jamie Prosser with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department provided additional details on the in-custody death that happened on July 16.

During a media presser, Asst. Sheriff Prosser said officers responded to a fight call at 8:37 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas.

LVMPD identified the deceased individual as 56-year-old Michael Turner.

According to police, Turner and two other individuals arrived at a business on West Charleston where they got into a physical altercation in the parking lot.

An officer, witnessing the fight as he drove by the business, radioed the information to more law enforcement.

LVMPD said the officer entered the parking lot where he located one of the individuals.

The individual told the officer that they had been assaulted by Turner, who had walked across the street and gotten into a white sedan.

The officer drove across the street and saw Turner in the white sedan. Police said the officer was broadcasting more information over the radio as Turner began to drive away.

Turner's car high-centered in the parking lot, and the officer parked his patrol vehicle behind him. Police said Turner set his vehicle to reverse and hit the officer's patrol vehicle.

Turner began to drive away again before stopping in the same parking lot. The officer said they gave Turner verbal commands to exit his vehicle.

Police said Turner exited his vehicle and crawled onto the ground.

Turner was then handcuffed, and police said he was rolled over into a position that did not restrict breathing or obstruct his airway. More officers arrived and medical responders were requested.

Police said while they were waiting for medical personnel to arrive, Turner rolled up into a seated position and requested that water be poured on him. Over the course of several minutes, police said Turner kept repositioning himself from lying on the ground to a seated position.

A patrol supervisor arriving on the scene said Turner did not look well. He requested Turner's handcuffs be removed and Narcan administered.

Police said due to the fentanyl crisis in the community, all patrol officers are equipped and trained to use Narcan — a nasal spray used to reverse an overdose.

Two doses were administered for Turner, but police said they did not appear to have any effect. Upon this discovery, police said an officer began chest compressions on Turner.

Police said Turner was nonresponsive, and medical personnel was requested to expedite treatment.

17 minutes after the initial request, according to police, and began helping with life-saving measures.

Police said Turner was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:37 a.m.

As part of their investigation, police said almost 50 grams of methamphetamine was found in Turner's vehicle and another 29 grams were found on his body at the hospital.
