Valley man arrested, accused of discharging gun

Investigators  with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrested Raymond "Ray" Powell after an overnight shooting on Thursday. 
 
The incident occurred in the 5000 block of Sirius Avenue. Police are looking at charges involving a "prohibited person in possession of a firearm."
 
Metro confirms with 13 Action News a woman in a nearby apartment unit was hit in the stomach as a result of the weapon being fired. 
 
"We were just watching TV when it happened," said the victim's friend who asked to remain anonymous. 
 
The pair were inside the the unit along with three children watching TV. The woman hit was reportedly sitting on the couch. 
 
"She just got down on the floor and I ran, yelling for help," said the friend. "Police came and she was taken to the hospital."
 
A family friend tells 13 Action News the woman is being treated at University Medical Center with injuries to her intestine. 
 
She is expected to survive. 
 
No one else was hurt in the incident.
