A small plane had to make an emergency landing in far northwest Arizona late Monday morning.
Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an emergency landing of a personal aircraft near Beaver Dam in the desert area north of Interstate 15 and south of the Virgin River Gorge. Just before noon, deputies responded to a passerby reporting a small plane that went down. Shortly thereafter, a person onboard the plane called reporting that everyone was OK.
Upon arrival, deputies observed a Cessna fixed-wing single engine that suffered minimal damage from the emergency landing. The father and son team were traveling home to La Jolla, Calif. from the St. George airport in Utah when they smelled an electric burn. The pilot Dylan Tobias, 20, descended and landed the plane safely in the desert area without any injuries to himself or his father, Eric Tobias, 57.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified.
