The Mint 400 kicked off Wednesday in Las Vegas. After 50 years, the Mint 400 is more than just a desert race, it is an institution. The Mint 400 attracts hundreds of drivers in various classes of off-road vehicles.

Stewart was scheduled to co-drive the 1973 Ensenada 300 in the Class 2 buggy with Bill Hrynko, but prior to the race, Hrynko fell off a ladder and broke his leg. Unprecedented at the time, Stewart decided to drive the race solo and ended up winning.
