UPDATE: Coroner identifies toddler killed by bus

LATEST UPDATE: The Clark County coroner has identified the child as 2-year-old Jose Maria Covarrubias Jr. of North Las Vegas.

UPDATE: The victim was reportedly a 2-year-old boy who was struck by a school bus. Police investigation reveals that the toddler was in the street when he was struck.

The Clark County School District released the following statement: 

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident that occurred involving our school bus. CCSD is working in collaboration with the City of North Las Vegas Police Department who is leading the investigation.”
 
Neighbors said the mother of the child was inconsolable.  
 
"She kept trying to go to the baby," said Selena Thomas, "...you could see her body shaking."
 
Investigators said speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be factors at this time. The driver is fully cooperating with authorities. 
 
Those who live nearby were also grief stricken.  
 
"His mom was crying and I knew she used to walk him with the dog everyday," said 12-year-old James Jones.

The North Las Vegas Police Department is investigating a deadly crash.

Police say one person was struck and killed by a vehicle. It was reported on Thursday afternoon around 3:35 p.m. near Revere Street and Carey Avenue. The view from Chopper 13 shows the crash may have involved a CCSD school bus.

The cause of the crash, as well as identity of the deceased is not currently available.
