One year anniversary of earthquake near Caliente

Posted

Sunday marks the one-year anniversary of the earthquake near Caliente.

People around the Las Vegas valley felt the 4.8-magnitude quake that occurred at 11:47 a.m. There were several aftershocks.

While the quake occurred more than 100 miles away from Las Vegas, the temblor caused damage to southbound U.S. 95.

The quake dislodged rubber casings on an exit ramp to southbound Interstate 15, prompting a shutdown of that portion of the highway. The damage was from normal wear-and-tear, and was slightly exacerbated by the temblor, the Nevada Department of Transportation said. It brought traffic to a standstill for hours.
