Homeowners called 911 after hearing gunshots at Lewis Family Park near Sahara Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard. Police heard reports of a fight involving four people before the shots were fired.
Homicide detectives determined that the victim and his friends met with two other teens, which led to an argument and then a physical fight. The fight escalated when both the teen killed and another teen discharged their firearms. One of the rounds struck the 16-year-old in the upper body. The teens left the scene prior to officer’s arrival.
