Native American leaders, local and federal officials and conservation area backers are marking the opening of a paved road and visitor contact station at a petroglyph-rich area designated for preservation south of Las Vegas.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management says blessings by Las Vegas Paiute Tribe members are planned at the Thursday afternoon ceremony showing the work done to provide visitor access to Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area.
Officials say Nawghaw Poa Road is completed, along with parking, interpretive kiosks, restrooms and a ranger station.
The work provides 44 miles of trail access to Petroglyph Canyon, along with views of the Las Vegas valley from the hills south of Henderson.
People attending the 1 p.m. ceremony will be shuttled to the site from Aventura Park in Henderson.
