Nevada’s two major airports could be renamed after two longtime politicians in the state.

The Las Vegas airport could be renamed after former Sen. Harry Reid while the Reno airport could be named after former governor and senator Paul Laxalt, who preceded Reid in the Senate.

Renaming McCarran International Airport in honor of Reid has been discussed for years and was brought up again Tuesday in the Clark County Commission meeting.

Commission Chairman and Nevada Governor-elect Steve Sisolak said he’s asking management about the name change.

Sisolak has spoken to Adam Laxalt, his opponent in the governor’s race, about renaming the Reno-Tahoe International Airport after his grandfather. Laxalt reportedly appreciates and supports the idea.
