NYE COUNTY (KTNV) — Nye County made a significant move Wednesday when it comes to preparing for the planned “Storm Area 51” event next month.

County commissioners in Nye County pre-signed an emergency declaration at its Wednesday meeting in Tonopah. This signing allows for an expedited process if an emergency develops over the three-day event scheduled to begin Sept. 19.

Lincoln County officials reported they were also looking at declaring a state of emergency with the county commission also pre-signing emergency declaration earlier this month.

The declaration would bring in the funds for more medical and law enforcement resources ahead of the event.

The "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us" Facebook event was created back in June and quickly became a viral post.

By July, there were 400,000 people pledging to storm Area 51 and that hat number rose to 1.4 million people in August, prompting the event creator, Matty Roberts, to get a phone call from the FBI.
