North Las Vegas police responded to a fatal crash late Sunday morning near Carey Avenue and Losee Road.
Police said a red Chevy SUV was speeding east on Carey and swerved left, crashing through a barrier wall and fence. It ended up upside down in the dirt next to the train tracks on the west side of Interstate 15.
The male driver and female passenger died on impact in the crash that happened around 11:30 a.m. The Clark County coroner identified them as 52-year-old Rocky Dewayne Dean, of Las Vegas, and 58-year-old Belinda Ann West, of North Las Vegas. Their causes of death are pending.
"This is something tragic where we've lost two people this day," said Officer Aaron Patty. "It's the first fatal crash for North Las Vegas so a good reminder for people to slow down and be aware of your surroundings."
