The new Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Spring Valley Area Command opened Tuesday.
More than 100 officers will watch over about 31 square-miles between Interstate 15 and Red Rock National Conservation Area, and Flamingo Road and Charleston Boulevard. The building used to be a traffic bureau.
Police say this will yield faster response times to 911 calls.
"This is desperately needed. This area command opening is going to alleviate a lot of work from Enterprise our neighboring area command and Northwest area command and the residents of this area deserve better," said Capt. Brian Greenway.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department didn't hire new officers to man this substation. Officers from other parts of the valley were reassigned.
