Homeland Personal Protection Firearms Training is holding a new class Sunday on the fundamentals of home defense, targeted at gun owners.
Company owner Maggie Mordaunt wants everyone to be prepared in case of an emergency like a home invasion.
She says we all have fire escape plans but not enough of us have home defense plans.
"They've got their fire extinguisher, they've got their fire detectors, and how do we get out of the house, where do we meet, well that same thing should actually be used in a home defense scenario if someone breaks into the house," said Mordaunt.
Mordaunt uses a five point list to describe the fundamentals of home defense:
- Evade
- Barricade
- Arm yourself
- Communicate with law enforcement
- Use force if necessary
"If their lives are in imminent danger, they can respond with force if necessary," she said.
The class will teach you about the proper location of where to stage your gun, the best types of guns for home invasions, how to safely and properly deploy your gun, and lots more.
Mordaunt suggests we all learn this stuff now instead of after something bad already happens.
"We see that all the time, oh my house was burglarized, I need to come take a class, come take the class and be prepared," said Mordaunt. "It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it."
The class is Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and you can register online.
