LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Nevada's first lady Kathy Sisolak spoke with the Nevada Cancer Coalition.

"My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer 22 years ago, and through her annual mammogram, her breast cancer was small and confined to her breast and was non-invasive. So, I think early detection is the key," Sisolak said.

Experts estimate that there will be more than 21,000 new cases of breast cancer and around 400 lives will be lost.

The state's first lady also informed everyone to get screened to ensure they don't have breast cancer or to find out as early as possible.
