A change has been announced for prisons in Nevada.
Birdshot, which is the smallest size shot for shotguns, will no longer be used on the inmates in the prisons.
Instead, prison guards will us a lethal option such as rubber bullets/
Contact 13 Chief Investigator Darcy Spears has been following the use of force behind bars for years. The state is currently facing lawsuits over incidents where inmates were shot by guards.
One case is the case of inmate Carlos Perez, who was shot and killed in late 2014.
Nevada is one of the last states in the nation to use birdshot. Nevada's new Department of Corrections Director James Dzurenda is also working to change the culture among prison guards.
Birdshot was introduced in the 1980s.
