LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas law enforcement will be increasing its patrols on the roadways during the holiday season in a Joining Forces campaign.

Authorities will heighten enforcement of driving under the influence violations while increasing traffic safety to help reduce DUI-related incidents during the holidays.

There is no excuse to drive under the influence, according to a press release for Zero Fatalities, and the extra patrols are scheduled to take place from Dec. 20 through Jan. 3, 2020.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will dedicate extra officers during this time to specifically to look for drivers under the influence.

A spokesperson on behalf of Zero Fatalities said the funding for the added enforcement is made possible by a Joining Forces grant received from the Nevada Department of Public Safety/Office of Traffic Safety.

As Las Vegas residents make plans to celebrate the coming holidays, the LVMPD and other Nevada law enforcement agencies ask that the public make sure plans include viable alternatives to driving under the influence.

The goal of such campaigns is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving, according to a press release about the added patrols.
