Nevada appeals court judge unopposed for state high court

Posted

A Nevada Court of Appeals judge will move to one of two open Nevada Supreme Court seats, after she got no challengers in the race.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Abbi Silver was unopposed to replace retiring Justice Michael Cherry in January, while five candidates filed by Jan. 12 to replace retiring Justice Michael Douglas.

State Court of Appeals Judge Jerry Tao, Clark County District Judge Elissa Cadish, Lyon County District Judge Leon Aberasturi, Las Vegas lawyer Alan Lefebvre and Carson City attorney and former governor candidate John Rutledge face a primary election that will send two of them to the November general election.

The other Supreme Court race will pit current Justice Lidia Stiglich against Clark County Family Court Judge Mathew Harter.

Stiglich was appointed to the seven-member state high court in November 2016.
