A senior couple is safe after their neighbor broke into their home.
It happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday in the 4500 block of Mark Avenue, which is near Lake Mead and Decatur boulevards.
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue says that a fire started outside the home and spread. A neighbor noticed the fire and broke into the home. The woman who lives in the home is deaf and was not aware of the fire until the neighbor showed it to her.
The senior couple was able to escape without injury. A firefighter's hand was cut and required medical attention at a local hospital.
The cause of fire is under investigation. The home was heavily damaged. LVFR says there was a high amount of trash outside the home which probably contributed to the intensity.
