A woman lied to have an Amber Alert issued for her 12-year-old son who she reported to be in her car that was stolen in Cleveland Friday afternoon so that police would "try and recover her vehicle," according to Cleveland police.

Cleveland police received a report from the woman that the boy was sitting inside a silver 2008 Saturn when it was stolen near West 46th Street and Clark Avenue by two unknown men. It was last spotted near West 45th Street and Eichorn Avenue.

Authorities said that a woman reported that she left the child in the car while she ran into a nearby store. When she came back out the car was gone.

The child was later found safe at home and the Amber Alert was canceled when the woman confessed the boy was never in the vehicle and that she only said he was so that police would try and recover her vehicle, according to police.

Police said reports will be filed due to the woman making false police reports but that no arrests have been made at this time.

The incident remains under investigation.
