Thanksgiving gas prices to be lowest since 2009

This Thanksgiving, a gallon of fuel is expected to sell for its lowest price in over six years, according to a new report from GasBuddy.com.

The website, which allows users to share local gas prices, projected that the national average will be $1.99 per gallon on Thanksgiving Day. They claim that would be the cheapest average price for gas since March 2009.

"[That's] nearly 80 cents per gallon cheaper than last year and $1.29 per gallon cheaper than 2013," the report stated.

GasBuddy's experts offered a few tips for saving money at the pump this holiday season. They recommended drivers not stop at the first gas station they see, as lower prices mean more variation between stations. They also suggested waiting as long as possible to fill up because they expect prices to continue dropping through Thanksgiving weekend.
