Government releases new dietary guidelines to help you stay healthy

The government is releasing new dietary guidelines that could help you get healthy.

Added sugars should be limited to less than 10% of calories per day.

Saturated fat should also be limited to less than 10% per day.

And salt should stay under 2,300 milligrams per day.

Dieticians say this is a good advice but they wish it was even more strict.

"I would have loved for them go further and talk about where sodium really lies in the American diet and that's in ultra-processed foods. We've seen multiple studies come out in the past year showing that consumption of ultra-processed foods leads to weight gain" says Kristin Kirkpatrick, RD of Cleveland Clinic.

The guidelines also say that men should have no more than two alcoholic drinks a day while women should only have one.
