Democrat Kweisi Mfume has easily won a special election to complete the term of the late Rep. Elijah Cummings, retaking a Maryland congressional seat Mfume held for five terms before leaving to lead the NAACP. Cummings died last October, and Mfume defeated Republican Kimberly Klacik on Tuesday for the seat in the heavily Democratic district encompassing parts of Baltimore and two nearby counties. Ballots were mailed to all registered voters in the majority-black 7th Congressional District as the election was dramatically reshaped by the coronavirus pandemic. Mfume said he'll use “science, data and common sense to help get our nation through this dark hour."
