INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis woman wants to know who tortured and killed her dog with a screwdriver.

"She was like my daughter. I've had the dog for 10 years," said Lorrie Snowden, dog's owner.

Snowden came home from the store on Wednesday afternoon to find Petta lying outside her door, bleeding from multiple stab wounds.

"While I was gone, somebody broke into my house and attacked my dog, and then took my dog and attacked her somewhere else," said Snowden.

The cockapoo was stabbed as many as 15 times. Somehow Petta found her way home.

"She had to crawl back and let her owner know something was wrong," said Snowden.

She took Petta to an emergency vet clinic, but there was nothing they could do.

"They had to put her down. They couldn't save her," said Snowden.

Many in Indiana are pushing for legislation that would protect pets with stronger animal welfare laws, but Snowden says nothing will bring back her best friend.

"I don't know. I don't know. I really don't know. I don't know somebody could do something like that to an animal," said Snowden.

"If they can do that to a dog that can't defend themselves, can you imagine what that person could do to somebody out here. A human being?" said Natasha Perkins, Snowden's niece.

Police have not made an arrest in the case, but say they have information on a possible suspect.

Officers took a screwdriver from the home that had blood on it as evidence.
