Speaking from the Cannes Film Festival in advance of "Money Monster" debuting in theaters on Friday, actor George Clooney said Thursday that America will not elect presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.
"There is not going to be a President Donald Trump," Clooney said.
Clooney referred to Trump's comments on temporarily banning Muslims as a reason why Americans will not vote for Trump.
"It is not going to happen because fear is not going to be what drives our country," Clooney said. "We are not going to be scared of Muslims or immigrants or women."
Clooney has been actively fundraising for Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton. Clooney hosted a $33,000 per-plate fundraiser for Clinton last month.
Clooney later came out and said on NBC’s Meet the Press that it is “ridiculous to have this kind of money in politics.”
Clooney said that Trump’s popularity is due, in part, by 24-hour cable news channels not asking tough questions of Trump.
“24 hour news doesn’t mean you get more news, you get the same news more,” Clooney said.
Clooney has been vocal against Trump during the entire campaign cycle.
