KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A nonprofit that assists the families of fallen firefighters will pay off the mortgage of the West Peculiar (Missouri) firefighter who died last month .

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced on Wednesday its intent to cover that expense for Chuck McCormick’s family.

McCormick, 30, died in January as a result of battling a house fire. He had only been with the West Peculiar Fire Protection District for three weeks at the time of his death, leaving behind a wife and three children.

He also served in the Army National Guard with the 1135th Eng. Co. prior to becoming a firefighter.

Bobby Sperry, West Peculiar Fire Protection District chief, said he was thankful for the organization.

“I don’t have the words to express my gratitude for what you do,” Sperry said in a news release.

West Peculiar is located 30 miles southeast of Kansas City, Missouri.
