The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its nominees for possible induction into the 2018 class.

Nineteen artists spanning a variety of genres—from rock to hip-hop—made the cut and will be one step closer to reaching induction status.

Nine of the inductees are on the ballot for the first time, including: Eurythmics, Dire Straits, Judas Priest, Kate Bush, The Moody Blues, Nina Simone, Radiohead, Rage Against Machine and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

There is no maximum times an artist can be nominated said Carl Harp, the communications manager for the Rock Hall, who used J. Geils Band as an example for being nominated multiple times, five times to be exact.

The nominees for 2018 induction include:

  • Bon Jovi
  • Kate Bush
  • The Cars
  • Depeche Mode
  • Dire Straits
  • Eurythmics
  • J. Geils Band
  • Judas Priest
  • LL Cool J
  •  MC5
  • The Meters
  • Moody Blues
  •  Radiohead
  • Rage Against the Machine
  • Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
  • Nina Simone
  • Sister Rosetta Tharpe
  • Link Wray
Music fans can get in on the induction selecting process beginning on Oct. 5 until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 5 where they can cast who they believe is the most deserving of induction.

While every year is different and unique to that respective nominee class, Harp said this year's class speaks to the diversity of Rock n' Roll.

"When you think of Rock n' Roll, you can think of it as a tree with roots being jazz, R&B, soul, blues, and so on. Then you have the mainstream rock groups like the Beatles and The Rolling Stones that branch off into metal and punk," Harp said.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2018 Inductees will be announced in December 2017.

The 2018 inductees will be held at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland on April 14, 2018. A weeklong series of events are scheduled around the induction ceremony.
